Sharp to Start Shipping 10MP CCD Sensor
November 10, 2005
Sharp recently announced it has developed a 10MP CCD sensor for digital cameras, which also supports high-quality VGA recording at 25 frames per second. Sample shipments of the sensor, measuring 7.17mm by 5.13mm, are scheduled to begin in late November and mass production will kick off in January 2006, with an expected monthly capacity of 100,000 units. However, analysts expressed doubt whether the new sensor will be able to improve picture quality, as more pixels are crammed onto a smaller space, meaning less light for each pixel.
